Melchisedec’s Order
“Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.” Hebrews 7:4
What a great man Melchisedec was!
“Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.” (Hebrews 5:11) Still talking about Melchisedec. We have many things to say but they are hard to utter and you are dull of hearing. There is so much to say about this great man, but you can’t hear it.
Throughout my ministry, I have encountered many questions, studies, doctrines, and debate over the identity, priesthood, and existence of this enigma whom Abram met after the battle of the kings as recounted in the book of Genesis. Later, he is the subject of psalms indicating a continuing priesthood and the book of Hebrews provides him with unequalled status, ascribing him immortality, “without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.”
I have heard preaching that Melchisedec was a man, such as Shem, Enoch, or another of the patriarchs. Some say he is Christ himself. When faced with questions, I could provide no answers. To this day, the identity of Melchisedec remains a mystery enshrouded in the scriptures and lack thereof, but themes of his ministry run throughout the scriptures that provide clues to his identity. Through this book, I am providing the readers with a shadow providing insights through relationships into his character, mission, and ministry. Since this is all the scriptures have given us, and the scriptures are infallible, that is all we need. The ministry of Melchisedec provides the hope of eternal life and salvation.
